Best Beaches In Zakynthos

Gerakas is considered one of the most attractive beaches of Zakynthos for its turquoise waters and unique unspoilt features. It is located 18 km south of the capital and it offers a shelter for the the endangered sea turtle Caretta-Caretta. The sandy beach of Gerakas is a much preferred for swimming and sunbathing.

The small island of Marathonisi lies in the bay of Laganas and is under the protected of the National Marine Park of Zakytnhos, being a place where the Caretta Caretta turtles swim and nest. The island is actually the shape of a turtle and you can reach it either by renting a small boat from Keri or Laganas or by going on an organized trip. There is a great chance to see turtles and even swim close to them. Marathonisi is not inhabited. Apart from turtles, another distinctive feature of the island are its beautiful beaches - one sandy and one pebbly. The sandy beach faces Agios Sostis shore and has a specific shape. It is one of the most hidden places and maybe for this reason more beautiful and wild of the entire island. Limnionas is not actually a beach but a rocky cove where people dive from the rocks into the crystal water. To get there you have to pass through the mountains village of Agios Leon.

Pelagaki Beach in Zakynthos: Also referred to as Little Xigia, Pelagaki Beach is a hidden treasure that is not very well-known because of the steep stairs you must down to get there. It's a great, private alternative to the busy beaches of Xigia! Banana beach is one of the longest beaches in Zakynthos and has named both the magnitude and the morphology. Located in Vassilikos, is sandy with shallow, crystal and clear waters. It is also the most widely used beaches to tourists and locals. Along the beach is sufficient beach bar.

A real postcard beach, a “must” during a holiday. The coast road leading to the beach offers from the very first moment a breathtaking landscape. This wide beach consists of a mixture of sand and pebbles and the sea is so beautiful that it seems to be stolen from a Caribbean beach. On the way to Agios Nikolkaos, on the northern side of the island, Makris Gialos is a small beach with crystal water. As it is not much organized, Makris Gialos doesn't get very crowded.

Dafni is a long and wide sandy beach, crystal and clear waters, with a splendid view in the gulf of Laganas. Just across the beach, stands the small island Pelouzo. It is also the most widely used beaches to tourists and locals. Along the beach is sufficient beach bar.

Ksigia is a narrow, sandy beach on the northern side of Zakynthos, close to Alykes. A huge rock with lush greenery surrounds it.Ksigia is a lovely beach situated 20 km north of Zakynthos. This is one of the most popular locations of the island surrounded by a rocky landscape with lush greenery. It distinguishes for the unique water quality including brimstone offering the sea a light scent. The brimstone comes from the neighboring caves and it is therapeutic for the body pains, well-known to the locals as a natural spa.

This beach has beautiful crystalline waters and lush green surrounds that impress every visitor. It is definitely one of the finest examples of the island's natural beauty. The descent to Vromi Bay is long and steep but you get some good views on the way. The bay is pretty small with white pebbles. It is very picturesque, you can sit and look up at the surrounding terrain and there are also quite a few boats here. Indeed it is a starting point for boat trips. A bar behind the beach plays Greek music very loudly which ruins the tranquility somewhat.

Stenitis is a beautiful fiord located 35km northwest of Zakynthos Town. There are no tourist facilities in this beach, but it has gorgeous crystal waters. Stenitis is also a docking bay for small fishing boats that go for short daily excursions in the region. This is also a good spot of scuba diving. The beach is surrounded by hillsides covered with lush greenery and vast plantation. It is accessed through a main road passing the village of Maries.

Among the island’s many natural wonders there is also Korakonisi. Located near the village of Kiliomenos, this huge arch-like rock formation stands 20m tall and stretches over a small bay. The water around it is clear, cold and perfect for swimming and diving. You can also climb the rocks and enjoy the view from the top.
